About Oxford Community Energy Co-operative
A Brief History
The Ontario’s Feed-in-Tariff (FIT) program
has created an opportunity for co-operatives to participate in the development and distribution of renewable energy in partnership with a commercial developer.
The Oxford Community Energy Co-op was conceived as a partnership project between Prowind Canada, Ontario Sustainability Services and IPC Energy in August 2013. On September 17th the new Co-op incorporated as a ‘For-Profit Co-operative with Share Capital’ with the Financial Services Commission on Ontario (FSCO) under the name Oxford Community Energy Co-op Inc. and established its head office in Woodstock, ON.
The board of the Oxford Community Energy Co-op inaugurated with 7 directors on September 19th 2013 and the Co-op shortly after was fully operational.
Since then the co-op has attracted new members from Oxford County as well as other areas of Ontario and has and will continue to build it’s local membership and investor base.
The cooperative is governed by its elected Board of Directors which consists of 9 directors, 3 advisors and has one dedicated full time staff.
We are a renewable energy cooperative in which residents of Oxford County and all of Ontario are invited to become members to jointly create a more environmentally sustainable community without a need to compromise their investment objective for profit potential.
Oxford Community Energy Co-operative will serve the communities it operates in by keeping the ownership, the profits, and the business is conducts local.
